The Cabot Trail Motorcycle Retreat will be adding a third room for 2012! The room will also have a queen size bed just as the other two. We can now accommodate 6 (2 per room)

Riding season is fast approaching so if you are thinking of coming to visit the Cabot Trail, give us a call and we can set you up with a room! Our rate is $65 per room (max 2 people per room)

New Facebook page

When we first started our Facebook page, we set it up as a person so that we could have friends.Also for the simple fact that back then, a Facebook “person” had much more to offer then Groups. The new “pages” in Facebook will allow us to expand our friendship as we are now approaching Facebook’s 5,000 friend limit. I do wonder how Facebook came up with the 5,000 friend limit? We may not know all of our “friends” on Facebook YET but there are many miles of road to ride in our lives and hopefully we can meet up someday!

What weather!

What a day here in Cape Breton! For March 8th and the temperature to be at 12c, its like summer in a sense! Well, that’s what we hope for but as Cape Bretoner’s know, the weather WILL change, especially at this time of year. I know we still have snow on the ground here at the Cabot Trail Motorcycle Retreat and that we are not alone in Cape Breton. Mainland Nova Scotia probably has no snow or little snow but as its only March, we could still be blasted with a few good snowstorms and cold weather.

The sun and warmer temperatures and longer days are a sign of things to come and we welcome this with arms wide open but we cannot forget what month it is!

If you are out for a ride today or are planning to, please be careful as cage drivers are pretty well not expecting to see you and the roads are still covered in sand or salt.

Cabot Trail Motorcycle Retreat shirts are available for purchase! We have 2 styles for ladies, they are black. Sizes are small to large. Mens shirts come in black or charcoal and are available in sizes medium – extra large for black and large and extra large for charcoal. Shirts are $25 CDN plus shipping. I will be posting more pictures of these great shirts. They are printed using discharge printing so that the logo will NOT crack. Please contact us!

A very lonely motorcycle

Well, well, well….. its March 1st and spring is around the corner. It may be a few more corners before Cape Breton will see spring though as we have quite a bit of snow still on the ground and its been quite cold these last couple of days. Regardless, March is a time to start “thinking” and “planning” your summer fun, whatever that may be!

Spring is also a time of preparing your motorcycle for the upcoming season. I would also stress that you add your riding to that preparation. If you have not ridden in a few months, chances are that you may have a few cobwebs that need to be shaken off for your first few rides. Add to that the roads and their salty, sanded condition plus unaware drivers, spring can be a dangerous time for us riders! So please be careful out there!

So with that being said, bring on Spring! Its about bloody time!

Off The Cabot Trail

Cabot Trail on a sunny day

If you are coming to ride the Cabot Trail, you should give yourself some time to explore some spots that are off of the Cabot Trail. Some great spots off the Cabot Trail include: Neil’s Harbour, White Point, Meat Cove and Bay St. Lawrence. These are all off the Cabot Trail but worth the ride and the pictures that you will get! I highly suggest to take some time to check these small villages out. One word of caution though, the road to Meat Cove becomes gravel a little ways down but if you are ok with gravel, its worth it! If you don’t want to ride the gravel, you can go into Bay St. Lawrence, follow the road all the way to the end on the dock. This is all paved and will bring you to the end where you can see Meat Cove from a distance.

The Cabot Trail is an amazing road to ride in the summer on your motorcycle but if you live here, you get to experience it in all weather including the harshest winter weather you can imagine. Cabot Trail – Counterclockwise or clockwise?

Cabot Trail - 2011

Riding the Cabot Trail is one thing, deciding which way to ride it is another! After riding it both ways numerous times, I do lean towards counterclockwise because you follow the coast more and I find the views a little more spectacular. There is NOTHING wrong with riding the Cabot Trail clockwise and if you have the time, I suggest you ride it both ways! There are some great views clockwise as well and some find clockwise better than counterclockwise. It really is a matter of opinion! Either way the Cabot Trail will be an enjoyable ride! In future, I will talk about some side trips that should not be missed while riding the Cabot Trail.

Cabot Trail – Distance and time

The Cabot Trail is approx. 300 KM in length. One of the questions we get asked here at the Cabot Trail Motorcycle Retreat is how long will it take to ride. We like to tell our guests between 6-8 hours. Some riders will do it faster, some slower, but if you give yourself a day to ride it, you won’t be rushed and you will be able to soak all that the Cabot Trail has to offer.
